03 — CUSTOM WEB APPLICATIONS

Software built around the way your business works.

Spreadsheets and disconnected tools can carry a business a long way. When they stop fitting the work, a focused web application can give people a shared process and a clearer view of what needs to happen next.

THE RIGHT FIT

Start with the problem
you want to solve.

For organisations with a specific process that off-the-shelf software does not handle comfortably. Examples include internal request tools, staff dashboards and operational workflows. A custom build makes sense when the requirements and ownership are clear enough to justify maintaining it.

WHAT WE CAN BUILD

A practical scope.
A clear outcome.

Requirements & workflow

Map the users, decisions, data and exceptions. Agree what a useful first release must accomplish and what can wait.

Application implementation

Develop the agreed interface and application logic, with data validation and access rules suited to the project.

Integration & maintainability

Review the systems the application needs to exchange data with, document setup and define how updates and support will be handled.

HOW WE WORK

From a conversation
to something useful.

  1. Map one real process

We start with real examples of the work, not just a feature list. That reveals the handoffs and exceptions a working system needs to support.

  2. Deliver a focused release

The initial scope concentrates on the core workflow so that users can review something meaningful before more features are added.

  3. Test with the people using it

We validate representative scenarios, review access and error handling, and agree a deployment and handover plan.

BEFORE WE START

Questions worth asking.

Should we buy software or build it?

That depends on how closely existing products fit the process. I prefer to understand the requirement first; a configuration change or a smaller integration may be a better answer than a full custom application.

Can you connect an application to our existing tools?

Integration depends on the APIs, access permissions and data quality of those systems. We review those constraints during scoping before promising a particular connection.

What happens after the first release?

Maintenance, hosting responsibility and future improvements should be agreed explicitly. The handover should make it clear who owns the system, how it is deployed and how new requests are prioritised.
